Olivia retreated to the cafeteria to fix herself a coffee. She felt like this was going to be a long night, and she needed a caffeine fix.

While she was preparing coffee, Nikki Harding appeared alongside her. “How are you faring so far, Liv?”

“Still waiting for our big break,” Olivia explained, keeping her eyes on the mug. “Once we get word on the fingerprints, that should lead us somewhere.” Unless what the doctor suggests comes to pass and it ends up being a complete waste of time.

“I would have thought that our resident psychologist would have handed them over on a silver platter by now.” The disdain in Nikki’s voice was palpable. She looked directly at Olivia, as though trying to establish some kinship. “Be honest; what do you think of her?”

“She’s… a law unto herself,” Olivia admitted. “But she’s a qualified one.”

“I feel like she’s not good for the team dynamic,” Nikki replied quickly, as though Olivia’s words went completely over her head. “I’ve been catching murderers my whole career now. I don’t need some shrink coming in and telling me how to do my job.”

Me and Nikki are actually seeing eye to eye on this?

Still, she couldn’t help but wonder whether the detective sergeant’s reasonings were personal rather than professional.

Nikki continued. “I know she’s been working closely with Steven. Ever since he had his run-in with the anniversary killer, he’s been going to see her for support.”

Dr Pike is Collins’ therapist? He certainly kept that close to his chest.

“I can’t help wondering if she’s got some kind of agenda,” Nikki noted.

“Maybe she does, maybe she doesn’t,” the inspector said with a shrug. “But she’s good at her job. And that’s what we need right now.”
